modern adaptations of the iliad that make odysseus into an upstanding guy with a Very modern moral compass and like the character we’re supposed to sympathize with and trust is always hilarious b/c there’s an entire book of the iliad that’s just odysseus and diomedes stealing horses and killing sleeping people, like the paragon of honor and respect that he is

the death of patroclus in the iliad is sad and all but tbh the most emotional and heartbreaking death in a homeric work is when odysseus’s dog argos waits 20 years to see his master again and dies immediately after he gets to see odysseus one last time
